-Lora, age 50
I had always dreamed of being a skier and figure skater. At 45, I decided to stop dreaming and start learning. I found that I loved both sports, as well as the challenge of learning new skills. However, my body didn't appreciate the many falls I sustained along the way. Three years later, I was experiencing constant lower back pain and inflexibility. After a visit to my homeopath, I learned that I had a herniated disk. Two years later, I'm 50, and my body is a testament to the work-- I'm strong, flexible, and in better shape that I've been in 20 years! I'm able to skate again, and I can't believe the difference in my skiing. It's so much easier to do any sport well when you know where the energy for it comes from, and when your body can move as it was meant to move. Thank you for helping to make my dreams a reality. |

"I have never seen you healthier," explaimed my physician at the close of my annual physical,"...around your spine there is a lot of muscular development!" - clearly a sharp contrast to 18 months prior, when the physical and mental fatigue of a herniated disk dominated my life. Today I credit my healthy spine to the exceptionally skilled, perceptive and compasionate staff at Chicago Northshore Gyrotonic. Fueling my committment to private sessions twice-weekly, the holistic workout is a soulful foundation for the mindfulness I attempt to practice each day. |

When I came to Chicago Northshore Gyrotonic a little more than a year ago, I was coming off of 2 injuries, 4 years of pain - visits to doctors, months of physical therapy, and Pilates training elsewhere - feeling very frustrated and I realized later, depressed, because I could no longer do the things I love to do without experiencing pain and without fear of being hurt again. Slowly, I have learned how to use Pilates to manage my pain and bit by bit I am recovering my strength and overcoming my fear of being injured. I am back on track with my workouts, my outside activities, my work, and my life. Thank you for making a difference in my life! |

As a result of being afflicted with cerebral palsy at birth, I have had a chronically stiff and rigid body throughout my life. About 10 years ago, this chronic stiffness combined with the increasing stiffness that naturally accompanies aging, resulted in neck and knee pain. Fearful these pains would worsen and impair my ability to walk, I first started water aerobics classes and 18 months ago Gyrotonic training. At first, my body could only tolerate 1/2 hour sessions. Now, I have no trouble dong the regular 1 hour sessions, twice a week. My Gyrotonic training has resulted in markedly increased flexibility thoughout my body. I experience movement in parts of my body that I had assumed were totally paralyzed. A number of people have commented that I walk straighter, I seem taller, and my gait has changed. I am hopeful that Gyrotonic training will continue to improve the quality of my life and mitigate the effects of aging. |
